Blogs, Facebook, Twitter… Say ‘Hi’ to Foursquare
18 Mar
Three weeks ago, I was reading an article in AdAge, “If I only have two minutes a day to devote to social marketing, what should I do?” (Can’t link to the article, you need a username and pass) When I learned about Foursquare. It was stated by the author, David Berkowitz, that Foursquare “is the next Twitter.”
So, of course, I was intrigued by what this new foursquare thing was, and how could it become the next hottest micro-blogging platform… So I went ahead and searched it on Google. First impression: “This website is already famous” – write “foursquare” on Google, and check what appears on the first spot of the search… it’s hard to miss it.
But, what is foursquare? let’s read at what Bob Gilbreath from “Marketing With Meaning” said:
Foursquare is a mobile tool that allows you to “check in” at locations where you physically appear—essentially a way of broadcasting to friends that you are, say, having a coffee at Starbucks, or waiting in line at the DMV.
So, if I don’t misunderstood, these guys have just found a different way of tweeting. Not only that, it is strictly business related… In other words, the difference between Foursquare and Twitter is easy to see: in Twitter, marketers are able to create a two-way communication with clients or even prospective clients, but, how do business-owners find these clients? In Foursquare, you can see who SPECIFICALLY goes to your business, when and, probably, why, and that’s it…
Therefore, it might be more appealing for local business owners to jump on the Foursquare train, and not lose their minds trying to figure out how to get in touch with prospects on Twitter or even Facebook…
This way of social media is very risky, as well. Not sure how, but I think anyone can see where I am once I “Check In” to the place… Nevertheless, I can’t wait to keep exploring.

Hmmm… sounds intresting… i’ll try it!
Aca en ARG ya lo están usando cada vez mas!, lo que pasa es que todavía no hay buenos proveedores de servicios como para que todo el mundo pueda conectarse a la web via su celular.Esperemos que esto cambie pronto!
